Babe to the Wolves....or Why I Fear For Amanda Baker

Aaah, Babe. Us AMC viewers know her well. And how could we not? She's been shoved so far down our throats in the past four years that I'm still coughing up blonde hair. Whether you love her (some) or hate her (most), the character of Babe is firmly planted in the middle of AMC. So when I heard that Babe's portrayer, Alexa Havins (as if you didn't know) was leaving, while sad to lose her talent (because Alexa is fabulous and makes Babe slightly tolerable), I damn near threw a party. Finally!! No more babydawl! No more of the train wreck that has become Babe and JR! Amanda and JR can move on without Babe" know-it-all" Carey. But before my party even started, it got rained out. TPTB changed their minds! They were recasting her after all! I was foiled again!

But then I found out who they were recasting her with. Amanda Baker! And my cloud had a silver lining. I know what you guys are thinking. Why am I excited that an actress we only know as Jolene from Night Shift is going to play Babe? Don't laugh.....but it's because I think that she looks like a nice girl. Very girl next door who is sweet to everyone-looking. The kind of girl I would want as my best friend. To sum it up--the kind of girl Babe isn't. Babe isn't going away anytime soon. So I'm hoping that Amanda's sweet face has super-hero powers and can change Babe's character completely. (I mean, Jolene was a nice girl before we found out about that Angel of Death nonsense. But I forgive ya, Amanda, and I still want to be your best friend.)

But as soon as I set my hopes high, they once again came crashing down when I found out how said recast was going to take place.

AND VISIONS OF JENNIFER BRANSFORD DANCED IN MY HEAD.

For those who don't know, Babe (Alexa) will hug Krystal, when they separate, Babe will be Amanda. And I'm sure that they will have that stupid voice over to tell us that there is a different actress. Thanks, because it's not like we actually WATCHING, or anything. Actually, they are pretty lucky that we are, with all this "let's be cute and switch actresses in the middle of the scene" nonsense. Not cool, writers. Why can't they write Babe off for a couple of months (and give us a break), and have her come back with a new face? IT'S NOT THAT HARD.

But I'll be rooting for you Amanda Baker. I hope you impress me just like Sabine Singh. Make the critics forget that you were ever a Pink Lady on Night Shift (please.)

Oh, and one more thing. If hugging Krystal can change a girl's face, can it change her body, too? Because I would totally love to have Kelly Monaco's figure.--JABC
